SNG rotThe base of my last project is the Research Institute Senckenberg,Departement for Marine Sciences at Wilhelmshaven whre I have been working from August 2001 until July 2005.

Within the multidisciplinary research group BioGeoChemistry of the Wadden Sea FGWatt02we are analysing the transport processes of suspended matter within the system Wadden Sea in cooperation with the University of Oldenburg and the Max-Planck-Institute for Microbiology in Bremen.

Area of interest is the back-barrier area of the Eastfrisian Island Spiekeroog at the German North Sea.

For the subproject Hydrodynamics and suspended matter balance I am working on the subject Suspended matter balance in the Wadden Sea dealing with the transport of suspended sediment in the tidal cycle. Aim is to understand the behaviour of suspended particles in relation to the hydrodynamic conditions and the calculation of a balance in the sens of import and export of suspended sediment for different hydrodynamic conditions.

measurementO v e r al l s e a s o n s w e a r e r u n ni n g m o n t hl y m e asurement campaigns with the institutes research vessel FK Senckenberg. The surveyed parameters are tidal currents by means of an ADCP and PC-ADP, particle sizes of suspended sediment by a LISST system and additional oceanographic data by a CTD. Leading most campaigns as scientific head of mission I have to coordinate the participating working groups beside my own measurement programme.

For beeing able to perform these measurements I am also responsable for the design and construction of moorings for these instruments.

First results of recorded data have been presented already on international scientific meetings.

The following page displays a selection of field work photos.
